The Arcigera Flower Moth is .50 inch long and has a wingspan of one inch. The forewing is dark brown with paler grayish-brown median and terminal areas. The white ante-medial line is arc shaped and the white post-medial line is slightly curved. The hindwing of the male is black on the outer half and bright yellow on the inner half with a rectangular black discal spot. The hindwing of the female is black with a pale fringe. The caterpillar has a brown body with thin, indistinct dorsal and sub-dorsal lines. The head is shiny brown.

 

The frequency of occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known. It has been photographed in early September at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center and Camp Brewster. Adults feed on flower nectar. They may be seen nectaring during the day, but are mainly nocturnal and come to lights.

 

The larvae eat the flowers of Asters, Horseweed and related composites.
