CORDYLIGASTER SEPTENTRIONALIS

This fly is approximately 5/8 inch (15 mm) in length. It is a slender, mostly black fly with clear brownish tinted wings. The top of the thorax and the abdomen have some chalky white markings. There are long, black hairs on the abdomen. The eyes are red. The legs are long and black.

 

The frequency of occurrence is unknown, but it has been photographed in Fontenelle Forest in mid-september.

 

This is the only species in the genus Cordyligaster in North America. The larval hosts are unknown.
