This is a black beetle covered with a dense white pubescence. It is about 1/6th of an inch long.

This beetle was found at Camp Brewster in the prairie on a honey locust tree. It is not known how frequently it occurs in Fontenelle Forest.

The mandibles of the male beetles are notably enlarged. The western subspecies is conspicuously hairy in comparison to the Eastern subspecies.
