NET-WINGED BEETLES (Lycidae)

This a red and black beetle about 1/5 to 2/5 inch long (5.0-8.5mm). There is a net like pattern to the elytra. The antenna are long and often flattened.

 

This beetle was found as it came to lights during mothing. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known.

 

Adults are active in daytime on foliage, flowers and tree trunks. Larvae are carnivorous and live under bark.
