PUSTULATED CARRION BEETLE

CARRION BEETLES (Silphidae)

This beetle is mostly black with small orange elytral spots along the outer margin. Also there are 2 spots at the base of each elytron. It is close to one inch long. It was identified by experts at Bugguide.net

 

This beetle is usually found on carrion but sometimes on decaying vegetation or living plants. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known. This one was photographed at Neale Woods where it came to lights.
