RETICULATED BEETLE

Tenomerga cinerea
RETICULATED BEETLES (Cupedidae)

A pale brown or grayish beetle covered with small scales. The antennas are almost as long as the body. The elytra have rows of squarish punctures between lengthwise ridges. This beetle is about 7-15mm long (1/4 to ¾ inches). Like all members of this family the body is flattened and elongate. It was identified with the help of experts at Bugguide.net.

This beetle was found at Fontenelle Forest. Its overall occurrence there is not known. Both larvae and adults occur in moist rotting wood.

It often comes to lights. Reticulated beetles are considered a primitive family of beetles.
