The Round-tipped Conehead is the smallest member of the conehead group. It grows to about 2 inches long (50 mm) and occurs in both green and brown form. It can be identified by its size and the shape and color of the tip on the head. It is rounded and black on the underside.

Eastern Nebraska is considered to be the western edge of the normal range for the Round-tipped Conehead. It may be common in this area although it is seldom seen. It can be found in grassy or weedy areas along roadsides, fence rows and edges of the great marsh. It has been photographed three times in Fontenelle Forest in the months of August, September and October.

The song is a continuous, dry, raspy high-pitched buzz with a crackling quality that sounds like an electronic short. It sings in the late afternoon and during the night from August to October.
