This is a slender reddish beetle that is about 10-12 mm (1/2 inch) long. It was identified to genus with the help of experts at Bugguide.org. This beetle looks similar to L.collare previously put on Nature Search but is twice the size and has other suttle differences.

 

It was found in the nature center. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known.

 

Rove beetles have short elytra exposing some of the abdomen. They have an elongate slender body. This genus belongs to the Paederine subfamily. Members are small to medium sized with a distinct neck.
