This is a black beetle with grooves on the elytra. It has a green and sometimes blue or purple reflective surface on its thorax (best seen in photo B.). It ranges from about 1/3 to ½ inch long. It was identified with the help of experts at Bugguide.net

 

This beetle is found throughout most of the U.S. Its occurrence in Fontenelle Forest is not known.

 

Beetles in this genus live in a variety of habitats and under a variety of cover. Both the larvae and adults of this beetle are predatory.
