The Aethes Tortricid Moth has a forewing length of slightly larger than .25 inch. The forewing is cream-colored with scattered brown scales. When the wings are closed there is a light brown crescent-shaped mark in the ante-median area, and a dark, brown round shape in the median area. The hindwing is plain gray.

 

The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It was photographed once in late August, 2014 at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center. From BugGuide records It ranges from Nebraska and Oklahoma north to Minnesota and Maine south to Tennessee. Adults fly from July to September.

 

There is very little information about this moth. The food plants are not known, but Cochylid moth larvae generally are seed, flower and stem borers. This moth is in the Cochyline tribe. There are 34 named species in the genus Aethes in North America.
