This metallic green bee is approximately 1/2 inch in length. The green thorax is rough (pitted). The abdomen is metallic green with white hair bands in between segments on the female. Males have black and white abdominal bands. The legs are black with long, golden hair. The wings are a clear light brown.

The frequency of occurrence is not known. The individual shown here was photographed in late September in Fontenelle Forest.

This species is said to be solitary with a single adult bee per nest. Agapostemon bees are differentiated from other metallic green bees by the hind tibia being equal to or exceeding the tarsii in length. These bees nest in burrows in the soil or sometimes rotting wood.
