This small bee is approximately 3/8 inch in length. The head and thorax are a brilliant metallic green color. The abdomen is black with white hair bands for both males and females. The eyes and antennae are black. The wings are a clear brown.

This bee is probably common in summer in Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods. Look for it nectaring on flowers.

Communal behavior has been reported for this species, but only for the sharing of nest entrance and tunnels, not for cooperative provisioning or care of larvae.
