The Alfalfa Webworm has a wingspan of about 1 inch. The forewing is tan with a streaky pattern of brown and black lines. The subterminal area is yellow. The fringe is pale gray. The hindwing is gray with darker shading along the veins. The larva is yellowish to dark green with a broad light-colored striped down the back and a darker striped parallel to the light stripe.

 

This moth is considered to be common. It has been photographed at Neale Woods once in September 2012 and once in July 2013. The adults are attracted to artificial lights.

 

The larval host are low plants and crops, including alfalfa. The species overwinters as a larva or pupa. The adults emerge in spring.
