This beetle is brown in color and about one half inch long. It has a long antenna and long legs. These beetles are also recognized by their thickened upper legs.
Adult beetles live on the surface parts of aquatic plants while the larvae feed on submerged stems and roots. This beetle was photographed in the marsh in the middle of August. Photo A was taken of the beetle on an American Lotus leaf while B was taken of the beetle on a towel back on shore.
Donacia is a large genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Donacinae.
