This beetle is dark brown with light markings. It is about 1 inch long. The antenna have eleven segments and are threadlike. It was identified by experts at Bugguide.net

 

Members of this family live under bark where they feed on fungi and rotting wood. Its occurrence at Fontenelle forest is not known. This one was found in Childs Hollow.

 

This species is one of only two North American species in this family. Bark beetles are attracted to lights.
