Bay-breasted Warbler

Setophaga castanea
(Parulidae)

Length 5.5 inches long. The breeding male has a chestnut crown, throat, and flanks. The face is black with a cream colored patch on the side of the neck. There are also two white wing bars. The female is duller and lacks the black face.

 

The Bay-breasted Warbler is an uncommon migrant to Fontenelle Forest.

 

The Bay-breasted Warbler nests in the coniferous forests of Canada. It’s migration path is in the east and barely reaches as far west as Omaha.
