This moth is a bird-dropping mimic and has a wingspan of 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches. The hindwing is yellow with a cinnamon border that does not reach the apex. The front legs are covered with long white and gray hairs.

 

This common moth can be seen perching on vegetation during the day. They are also frequently found coming to lights at night.

 

The caterpillar is ringed with black white and orange and is hairless. The thoracic shield is orange. Larval food is ampelopsis, grapes, hops and Virginia creeper.
