4.75 inches long. The Bell’s Vireo is a rather small vireo with a greenish back and light yellow undersides. Like all vireos it has a somewhat sturdy bill with a slight hook at the end. It had two whitish wingbars that can be very faint. It also has indistinct white spectacles.

The Bell’s Vireo is a very uncommon migrant and breeder in Fontenelle Forest. The one in the photos was seen in July near the Great Marsh blind and the prairie.

Like most vireos the Bell’s Vireo sings often. The call sounds somewhat like a very hoarse version of the Warbling vireo song. It is a secretive and active bird.
