BENT-WING ACLERIS

Acleris subnivana

The Bent-wing Acleris has a wingspan of 1/2 inch. The forewing is white with a gray-brown triangle at mid-point of the strongly indented costa. some individuals are tan-colored with a fragmented dark triangle at midpoint of a straight costa. The hindwings are gray.

 

The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It has been photographed at Neale Woods in early June 2016 and at Fontenelle Forest in mid-June 2016. It ranges from Ontario to Maine west to Wisconsin and Oklahoma south to South Carolina. Adults fly from April to August.

 

The larvae eat the leaves of Red Oak. Another common name is Common Acleris.
