This slender green caterpillar is covered with little white dots and very short hairs. It often has red, maroon or brown mid-dorsal and sub-dorsal stripes. The head has small forward projecting horns and the back end is pointed. The larva grows to less than an inch long. The wings of the adult moth are grayish to bluish-green with a granulated appearance. The costa, ante-median and post-median lines are cream-colored. The wing edges are ragged.

The frequency of occurrence is not known. The caterpillar was photographed in early July 2014 at Camp Brewster and two adults were photographed, one in August 2011 and one in August 2013.

The caterpillars eat blackberries and strawberries and the petals of various composite flowers including goldenrod, asters, sunflowers and coneflowers. The species overwinters as a pupa in a cocoon spun in leaf litter.
