This wasp is approximately 5/8 inch in length. It is shiny black on the head and thorax. The abdomen is bright red. The legs, wings and antennae are also black. This wasp was identified by volunteer experts at the BugGuide Website.

The frequency of occurrence is not currently known. The individual pictured here was photographed in late May in Fontenelle Forest.

The larvae of this braconid attack wood-boring insect larvae.
