Adult bugs are about 17 mm (0.67 inches) long and about as wide forming a shield shape characteristic of stink bugs. These bugs have a brown mottled color on both the top and undersides often with additional colored markings. They have alternating light bands on the antennae and alternating dark bands on the outer edge of the abdomen. This bug was identified with the help of Bugguide.net.

This bug feeds on a variety of plants, mostly on fruits but also on other plant parts. This one was photographed in the nature center. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known but we would expect it to be fairly common. It is native to Asia and apparently was accidentally introduced into the U.S.

It is also known as the yellow brown stink bug. It is an agricultural pest that can cause damage to fruit and vegetable crops.
