This beetle has yellow brown elytra marked with black. There are lots of yellow hairs on the thorax. It is 12-16 mm long (little over ½ inch).

 

These beetles are native to the Americas, where they are distributed from Canada to Argentina. It is found in fields and meadows. This specimen was found in the pollinator garden at the wetlands learning center. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is unknown.

 

This beetle is a mimic of bumble bees. It has a buzzy flight. It is also known as the brown fruit chafer. Euphoria is a genus of scarab beetles in the subfamily Cetoniinae, the flower or fruit chafers. As adults they show typical bumble bee behavior and sounds as they search for pollen, nectar, plant sap, fruit juices and mates. It is also known as the brown fruit chafer.
