This popular species of ground cover, introduced from Europe, comes in many varieties, usually with flowers in various shades of blue. Its leaves are green, roundish and form a dense mat. In the spring it shoots up to 6 inch flower stalks with many, typical mint-like flowers.
This ground cover species was apparently planted or has escaped from cultivation. It was found and photographed among a variety of other planted species next to the Wetland Learning Center in Fontenelle Forest which was demolished following damage in two catastrophic floods. It appears likely that this local population also did not survive the floods.
