The Celery Leaftier has a wingspan of approximately .75 to 1 inch. The forewing is an orange-tan color. It has a blackish circle above a figure eight and and a black PM line. The hindwing has a faint, even PM line and a black discal spot. The larva grows to about .75 inch. The head is yellow-green. The body is light green with dark green dorsal lines. This moth was identified by a volunteer expert at the BugGuide website.

 

The Celery Leaftier is common in our area and is present throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. It has been photographed in April and late November. The Celery Leaftier is found in all of North America, Central and South America.

 

The larval food plants include beans, beets, celery and spinach.
