This moth has a wingspan of 1 1/4 to 1 5/8 inches. The forewing is dark-brown to light-brown. The median area has a dark chestnut-brown squarish patch with a silvery-white sickle-shaped mark. The hindwing is plain light brown and tan with a whitish terminal band. The caterpillar is green with a white lateral line and black dashes above the line. The mature caterpillar is about an inch in length.

 

The Celery Looper is a common moth that is active both day and night. It can be seen from spring through fall.

 

Larval host plants are clover, corn, plantain, viburnum, dandelions and other low growing plants. It overwinters as a pupa in the soil.
