This cicada is only about an inch long, much smaller than the other cicadas in this area. It is light brown in color with clear wings and banded abdomen. Photo A was taken at the Neale Woods Nature Reserve as it was attracted to the building lights on 11 June 2016. Images B-E show another specimen just emerging from its exuvia on July 7th 2013 at Neale Woods.
These cicadas prefer prairies and grasslands. So it is not unusual, but in fact a promising sign, that this specimen in images B-E was photographed at Neale Woods the end of July sitting on grass in a reconstituted prairie. Rarely seen in the past, they are now (July 2013) found in numbers in the planted prairie at Neale Woods.
