CLEMENS’ CLEPSIS MOTH

Clemens’ Clepsis Moth has a wingspan of approximately 3/4 to 1 inch. The pale yellow forewing has a hint of darker scaling along the veins. The hindwing is pale yellow to white. The larva is slender with a pale yellow head with brown shading. It has very long hairs.

 

The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It was photographed at Camp Logan Fontenelle in Fontenelle Forest in mid-June 2015. It is considered to be common in its range across Canada, the northeastern U.S. and northwestern U.S.

 

The larvae eat primarily grasses, but have also been recorded eating aster and goldenrod.
