This plant bug is about 3/8th of an inch long. It has a dark, cloudy color pattern above, reflecting its common name.  The first segments of the antennae are swollen and covered in bristles.  Hind femurs are enlarged.  Like other plant bugs, this one has a proboscis it uses to suck plant juices from host plants.

This plant bug is found on a variety of plants from May through October. It is common and widespread throughout eastern North America.

There are 14 species of Neurocolpus in North America and they are all very similar in appearance. The species we have in this area is Neurocolpus nubilus, the most common in the midwest.
