COLORFUL FOLIAGE GROUND BEETLE

This beetle is about 1/3 inch long. It has a bright green elytra and a red abdomen and pronotum.

 

The beetle is active in the daytime on foliage and flowers. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known. This one was found at the Nature Center.

 

Adults feed on plant lice and other insects. This beetle is in the subfamily Lebiini or colorful foliage ground beetles. Members of this genus have squared off margins of the wing covers that expose the tip of the abdomen.
