This moth has a wingspan of approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches. The wings are a powdery gray color with darker gray and black mottling. This moth was identified by Bob Patterson with the Moth Photographers Group.

This moth is probably common in our area. It can be seen at night coming to lights. The individual shown here was photographed in early July at Fontenelle Forest.

The larval food plants are various trees including ashes, elms, poplars and willows and also forbs and grasses. The caterpillar is slender and brown. There are two to several generations in the spring and summer.
