A small, robust green katydid about 1 inch (25 mm) long. It has red eyes, green head and face, long wings extending beyond the end of the abdomen, green legs. The top of the thoracic shield is brown bordered by black lines. Legs are green.

The Common Meadow Katydid is widespread in the eastern U.S. except for Florida and adjacent states. In this area it is probably common but not often encountered. It can be found in grassy areas along roads or on the edge of open fields.

The song of this katydid starts with a long series of ticks followed by a dry buzz that starts softly and quickly becomes louder.
