This plant hopper has a body only about 1/4 inch long, with green, folded wings and a cone-shaped head, which is diagnostic. It also has black spots between the wings. It lacks the red striping along the forewing edges of the similar Two-striped Planthopper (Acanalonia bivittata).

This plant hopper can be seen on Wingstem and Stinging Nettle in our two nature centers during summer to fall. It is probably common but not often seen because of its small size and coloration.  It ranges throughout eastern North America.  It was introduced into Italy in 2010 and is now considered invasive in Europe.

This planthopper is polyphagus, that is, it takes nourishment from a wide variety of plants.
