This moth has a wingspan of 1 1/4 – 1 5/8 inches. It is white and unmarked except for a gold border on the forewing costa that almost reaches to the end of the wing. The head is the same gold color. The abdomen is bright yellow with rows of black spots. The caterpillars are covered with thick gray fluffy hair that is very long dorsally and shorter on the lower body.
The frequency of occurrence is not known in Fontenelle Forest, but it has been photographed at the nature center building in early and mid-August. During the day they often rest on their food plant. At night they come to artificial lights and may be found around buildings.
The larvae feed on the leaves of dogbanes. This moth is also called Orange-margined Dogbane Moth or Dogbane Tiger Moth. It overwinters in the pupal stage.
