Pelochrista derelicta
TORTRICID MOTHS (Tortricidae)

The Derelict Pelochrista has a wingspan of about 5/8 inch. The ground color is pale orange. There are multiple fine, wavy, black lines. A slanting white postmedial line separates the darker medial area from the lighter postmedial area. The hindwing is pale gray. The coloration of this moth blends in perfectly with dead leaves.

 

The frequency of occurrence at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is not known. It was photographed in mid-August 2012 in Fontenelle Forest. Adults fly in July and August.

 

The larvae eat the rootstalks of goldenrod. The name has recently been changed from Derelict Eucosma (Eucosma derelicta).
