DIFFERENTIAL GRASSHOPPER

Melanoplus differentialis
SHORT-HORNED GRASSHOPPERS (Acrididae)

This grasshopper grows to about 1 1/2 inches long. It has yellowish antennae. Its hind femora are yellow with a black herringbone pattern.

 

This species is common and found throughout the United States. The individual in image “B” was found on the Fontenelle Forest floodplain near the planted prairie.
