The Dotted Gray moth has a wingspan of about 1.25 inches. Gray to brown wings are marked with evenly spaced dotted lines. The abdomen has pairs of black spots on each segment. The caterpillar is a grayish brown color sometimes with dark middorsal spots. It is a long and slender twig mimic. The head is light brown with black markings that look like spectacles.

 

The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It was photographed on 10 June 2016 at Neale Woods at moth lights. It occurs in eastern North America from Maine south to Georgia and west to Texas and Nebraska. Adults fly mostly from May to July.

 

The larvae eat the leaves of birch, cherry, maple, oak, poplar, serviceberry and willow.
