GEOMETER MOTH FAMILY (Geometridae)

The Drab Brown Wave has a wingspan of 3/4 of an inch (18 mm). The forewing is grayish-brown with black speckling and 4 dark brown indistinct lines. The post medial and subterminal lines are slightly wavy and curve gently toward the base near the costa. A black discal dot is usually present between the antemedial and median lines on all wings. The terminal line is comprised of black dots. The hindwing is similar in color and pattern to the forewing.

 

The frequency of occurrence of this moth at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is not known. One individual was photographed at Camp Brewster, Fontenelle Forest in mid-Sept. 2015. Adults fly from June to September. They are nocturnal and are attracted to lights.

 

The host plants are chickweed and bedstraw and, possibly, strawberry.
