EARLY PROTEOTERAS

EARLY PROTEOTERAS

Proteoteras aesculana
(Tortricidae)

This moth has a wingspan of about 3/4 of an inch. It has a lacy pattern of blacks, browns, and even greens and purples (A). The larvae feed on various maple trees.

The abundance of this species is yet unknown, but since we do have their host plant, maples present, we may assume that they are probably present in good numbers as well. The adults are nocturnal, come to light and may be seen locally from April through June. As its name implies, this moth appears about a month before its relatives, the other Proteoteras.
