This is a bluish black beetle with 3 short whitish lines on each elytron. It is 12-16 mm long (about ½ inch). It has long antenna like other members of this family.

This beetle is found in the bark of living elms. Its occurrence in Fontenelle Forest is not known.

It is in the subfamily Cerambycinae ( Round necked long horns). It has not been proven but this beetle may play a role in transmitting Dutch elm disease. The larvae mine into the cambium of elm trees sometimes causing the bark to fall off and exposing the wood to attack by other insects.
