This beetle is orangish with dark ends to the wings. It is ½ -3/4 inch in length. The head is triangular in shape. The elytra on these beetles have a network of lengthwise ridges and less distinct cross ridges. The elytra are broadest toward the back of the insect and extending loosely beyond both margins. The body is soft. The antennae are long, thick, often flattened and near always saw-toothed or threadlike.

They are found predominantly in Eastern N. America but we don’t know their occurrence in Fontenelle Forest. They are active in daytime on flowers, foliage or tree trunks usually in the late summer to fall. Larvae are predatory on small insects, mites, under bark. Eggs are deposited on dead or dying trees.

The adults feed on decomposing vegetable matter (juices).
