Neoligia exhausta
OWLET MOTHS (Noctudiae)

The forewing length of the Exhausted Brocade is about .50 inch (13 mm). The forewing is peppery gray with with a darker brown median area. A black bar from the antemedian to the terminal line is interrupted by a white postmedian lines. The hindwing is plain light brown. Neoligia exhausta is the only eastern species of Neoligia with an anal dash.

 

This uncommon owlet was photographed at Camp Brewster, Fontenelle Forest on 4 June 2016 coming to moth lights. It was also photographed at Neale Woods on 13 June 2016. It ranges in the northeastern U.S and southeastern Canada. Most sightings are in June and July.

 

There is very little known about this species. The larval food is not known.
