This bug is about 1/4 inch (5 mm), brown and highly camouflaged when on tree bark. It was found and identified by Tony Palmer, with the help of experts at BugGuide. There are about 84 species in this genus and they are very difficult to positively identify, especially from images only. The antennae have four segments. As their common name implies, these bugs are oval and flat.
These bugs are usually found under tree bark or on bracket fungi. They are seldom seen thus not much is known about their abundance in this area.
The food source for this bug is fungi.
