FLAT-FACED LONG-HORNED BEETLE

This beetle is mottled black and brown. It is about 1/3rd of an inch long. It has a flat face that is nearly vertical or slanted backward. Hairs on its elytra form irregular patterns, which is characteristic of this subfamily. It was identified with the help of experts at Bugguide.net.

 

It is found in deciduous forest. Larvae feed on a variety of hardwoods. Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known. It was photographed after being attracted to lights.

 

This beetle is a member of the flat faced longhorn beetle subfamily (Laminae) whose members have a flat face.
