This beetle is about 6 mm long (1/4th inch). It has a black and white striped elytra and a red thorax. It was identified with the help of experts at bugguide.net.
Members of this genus are found on a diverse array of plants. Many feed on weeds. We would expect it to be common in Fontenelle Forest. This one was found in the pollinator garden at the Wetlands Learning center.
This genus belongs to the flea beetle subfamily Alticinae. This subfamily is known for its jumping ability. Members have an enlarged hind leg.
