FLOWER LONG-HORNED BEETLE

This beetle was identified to genus by experts at Bugguide.net. It is a brown beetle with yellow spots on the elytra. They range in size from1/3 to 5/8 inch (8-16 mm).

 

This photo of a mating pair was photographed at Neale woods on Black eyed Susan. The overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known but we expect them to be fairly common.

 

There are 2 other species of Typocerus on Nature Search. There are only small differences between the species. Experts could not determine the species of this one. Typocerus is a prominent genus of flower longhorns. The spots on the elytra help them mimic the appearance of wasps.
