FOUR-SPOTTED FUNGUS BEETLE

FOUR-SPOTTED FUNGUS BEETLE

Ischyrus quadripunctatus
PLEASING FUNGUS BEETLES (Erotylidae)

A cream colored beetle with four dark spots on the pronotum. In addition there are many dark spots on the elytra and they often merge to form dark bands. It is about 1/3rd of an inch long.

This beetle is usually found on fungi growing on bark. It is usually found in groups. We would expect it to be fairly common at Fontenelle Forest. This one was photographed along Missouri Trail.

The body of pleasing fungus beetles is often ovate and shiny and hairless.
