FOUR SPOTTED LEAF BEETLE

Babia quadriguttata
LEAF BEETLE FAMILY (Chrysomelidae)

A black beetle with four red spots on the elytra. It is less than 1/2 inch long.

 

Found in the U.S. west to Colorado and New Mexico. Its occurrence in Fontenelle Forest is unknown. This one was found on sumac at Neale Woods but in general it is found on a variety of shrubs and trees.

 

Many leaf beetles are economically important pests of agriculture.
