GRAPELEAF SKELETONIZER MOTH

This caterpillar, about 5/8th of an inch long, is identified by its basic yellow color with rings of dark spots, which sprout tufts of short hairs (A). It also has sparce long white hairs at its ends. See our page for the adult under “Other Micromoths” for a description of the adult moth (B).

 

This caterpillar species is probably common in our two nature centers, because of the abundance of many of its host plants, such as River-bank grape, Porcelain berry and Virginia creeper.
