This is a 12-17mm long beetle ½ to 1/3 inch). Its base color is reddish black.. Its elytra have 2 irregular triangles on it one a large one near the middle and a smaller one near the apex. Their color is variable. This beetle was identified with the help of experts at bugguide.net. Photo A. shows a female photographed at Neale Woods. Photo B. was photographed at acorn acres and C. was photographed at the Nature Center.

 

Its overall occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known. Its host is mostly hackberry.

 

It comes to U.V. lights. It belongs to the Lamiinae or flat faced long horned beetle subfamily. These beetles have a nearly flat face.
